| | | Identification please..... These fungi were found in a mainly Beech wooded aream growing out of the mulch under the trees. Can someone please identify them for me? I have a book about the countryside, with some pictures, but I can't find these so thought I'd ask the experts...... |

| | | Re: Identification please..... Why have you again posted this obvious edibility request when 4 posts have already been deleted, a PM sent and numerous links to our edibility policy given by other members.

| | | Re: Identification please..... All posts were made before I read the link a kind member pointed me to. I am now just trying to identify these John. A name is all I ask, I'm not asking whether I can eat them, I'll decide that, myself, when I know what they are. Is identification not what this forum is about? |

| | | Re: Identification please..... And to rub the salt in, it seems there was a 4th photo showing the all important gill features/colours which you did not include with this thread. This would have helped us with an ID tremendously.
But as you have been a 'very naughty boy' (in my best Monty Python speak) it looks like you are in for some disappointment.
Ah well.

| | | Re: Identification please..... Well good bye Wild About Britain mob! Shame this is such a non user friendly forum. Things are difficult enough for 70+ people without having this sort of attitude thrown in our faces.
IF when I first posted the "can I eat these" thread the mod had deleted and just sent me notification that he had, and why, things would have been sorted there and then but it took three posts and then a "friendly word" from a forum member before I found out where I was going wrong. I suggest that that "hidden" link about this subject be made clearer so that new members know what is what on here! |

| | | Re: Identification please..... It's only the fungi forum that's this intense, the rest of the forums are quite relaxed but obviously don't incur the same 'worries' as this one. Most people are deterred by the seriousness of the edibility issues but once you get past it, it's one of the best forums
At the end of the day, the rule is in place only to prevent harm, not to deter people from learning things about the mycological world that simply could not be learned elsewhere (at least not so easily). |

| | | Re: Identification please..... Hi Cheddar-caveman
To save a great deal of 'Mods' time, which we give freely may I add, we have rules which we display for members to read.
We also expect that when someone puts up a thread they take notice of the comments left by other members. Ok, you may not have read them before being removed but that must have set alarm bells ringing after 3 posts!
Surely reading the forum rules is not too much to ask!
We are a friendly 'mob' and I'm sure if you read a few threads you will see that.

If that's friendly Pahhh!
If the rules were made CLEAR and not "hidden" as a post, new members like me could find them.
Alternatively, when I first posted "are these edible" and it was deleted it would have been nice if you could have just said why. I thought I'd made a mistake in the posting process and it didn't post properly.
Any way, I'll leave now as I'm obviously not welcome. |

" We reserve the right to move, modify or delete posts or threads, without explanation,"
I would hardly say the particular rules applying to the Fungi Forum section were "hidden" when they are locked as a "sticky" post at the top of the Fungi pages. Now, I am something of a computer-numpty and it has taken me quite a while to find my way around various internet forums (fori?) but I have to say, on joining any new site, the first thing I do is check the Rules so I hopefully learn what I can/cannot post. So no, I personally don't think reading the Rules is too much to ask of any new member....
I'm sorry you feel the way you do but this is a very friendly forum and this section in particular has some extremely helpful, experienced and knowledgeable members who freely give of their time and expertise to help identify the finds and fuzzy photos of us lesser mortals!
The "edibles" rule has been created after a great deal of soul-searching and discussion by the Administrators and Moderators of this site (other edible-friendly mushroom sites are out there in cyberspace but WAB is not one of them) and as a charity and a resource used by schools this is (in my view) the correct approach. There are legal as well as ethical implications to allowing such discussions. Anyway, Nick Cantle said it far better a few posts back:
"At the end of the day, the rule is in place only to prevent harm, not to deter people from learning things about the mycological world that simply could not be learned elsewhere (at least not so easily)."
