| | Paxillus panuoides? Hi,
this appeared growing on the ground, but theres probably buried wood there of some form - at first I just thought a bit Oysterish, maybe branching Oyster, P cornucopia, but somethings not right.
Have I got Paxillus panuoides? Or what!
Nice faint mushroomy smell, offset short stipe and wildly decurrent gills, cap splitting and convoluting when older but all whiteish apart from a pale brown discolouration. No lilac tinge at stem base as far as I can see though.
Grateful for help/steer. In Yorkshire Chris.
Cheers
Ken

Neil. | Ooohh, that looks quite interesting Neil, thanks for that idea!
Both Jordan and Philips have this in the Scottish highlands only, but what do they know? joke.
Seriously, thats a possibility as far as I can see, except they do seem to have a short stipe. Otherwise, hhmmm.
Thanks Neil, anyone have any further views on that ?
Collection and dry to Chris?
Cheers
Ken

| | | Re: Paxillus panuoides? I wouldn't jump to any conclusions about this one. It would need to be checked from first principles, including spore colour.
Just look at this image:
At least one specimen appears to be centrally stipitate, which would rule out some options.

| | | Re: Paxillus panuoides? Yes, I had noticed that, but I thought we had two different species, obviously they have been messed about with and what I thought may be something special, had in fact, broken away from the stem.
Beginning to take on the form of Clitocybe phyllophila with that white bloom. Just a possibility mind.

| | | Re: Paxillus panuoides? Another good suggestion Neil.....................I'll bomb round tomorrow if I can and get a full specimen to have a proper look at a la Mr Burgess (quite right Ken) to try and do a proper job this time.
I just had a bit of the gills before as I thought it might be obvious, but back to basics!
Thanks all, I'll report back when done.
Cheers
Ken

| | | Re: Paxillus panuoides? Right, lets start again..............
Stem pretty centrally attached, gills adnate/slightly decurrent, white/cream spore print, cap has a small rolled rim and is silky and dry, all flesh is white, but gills are slightly creamy.
Stem is silky fibrillose and twists easily in growth, perhaps as there are a number together - It seems to grow as a number of fruting bodies from the same base.
I cant find a woody substrate, seems to be from the soil.
Hope this is helpful!
Clitocybe phyllophila, frosty funnel may well be good?
Cheers

Ken | In short, no Ken!
Ferrous sulphate? any iron salt? From where I dont know, any household things, baking soda, toothpaste etc?
How and what to expect please, just a colour change? this ones a new concept to me!
And what will it tell me about genus/species?
Cheers
