Any help?

... but assuming you have a reasonable content of ferrous sulphate, browny pinkish doesn't sound like a positive reaction. So perhaps this rules out Lyophyllum connatum.

| | | Re: Paxillus panuoides? Thanks Ken, actually, L connatum does look very good - and , any banter apart, I respect your judgment and experience.
The cap edge has now turned black as moss does with this stuff, so not ideal! -the gills are still just a bit darker, but not purple - and I have noted Jordan using FeSo4 as a test, so I'm with you now.
Common too apparently, hmmmm.
Thanks a lot
Cheers
Ken

Neil. | What made me think of Lyophyllum connatum was the way the stems all appear conjoined at the base:
Connate means joined by growth, and the epithet for that species relates to the often conjoined stem bases. Clitocybe phyllophila can grow in a caespitose manner but would it grow quite as conjoined as this? I'm too rusty to recall.

| | | Re: Paxillus panuoides? You're too kind Ken ! Of course C.phyllophila doesn't grow in clumps like L.connatum - I should have studied the photos more intently.
Neil.
P.S. to (Diggle) Ken.
