| | | Small soft bracket Hi,
Is anyone familiar with this.
I found it on rotting Birch. It was around 3cm across. Very floppy. I've been looking at Oysterlings and Schizophyllum but I can't pin it down.
I also found this on grazed grassland in the New Forest between gorse. The caps were under a cm across and there was what appeared to be algae slime on the ground at the base.
Thanks
Dave

Dave | hi
I'd need to see a bit more of the top one to hazard an opinion (it's not Schizophyllum, mind)
could the bottom one have been on wood? It looks suspiciously like Flammulina velutipes
Chris

| | | Re: Small soft bracket Thanks Chris.
There aren't any trees around now but the gorse is often cut and the stumps/roots are left to rot in the ground.
I did think it might be a Collybia. Now I've had a look at Flammulina velutipes it has all of the features, there's even some slight red spotting on the stem which I've seen on images in the Gallery.
Now I know what this is as well. It was 200yards away so I didn't connect it.
I'll try and get back to the bracket.
Dave

| | | Re: Small soft bracket Hi Neil,
now you mention it.... It was in deep shadow and needed a long exposure. Thinking back it was more grey and there seems to be an orange/pink cast to my picture compared to the original.

| | | Re: Small soft bracket how about Panellus stipticus for no1 ?
it appears to have the typical wrinkled cap of that species ?

| | | Re: Small soft bracket I cannot figure out what has happened to the cap surface as the broken up 'lumpy' ? surface is wrong for both suggestions.

I think you are spot on there. All of the images I've just looked at for Panellus stipticus were the spiiting image of what I remember.
There's an image here where the cap looks similar.
Thanks.
Dave

Neil. | i must say that the colour of Daves specimen is a bit on the orangey side, but this could be down to camera and low light conditions?
the other image Dave posted is more like the ones i have found, colour wise (mostly on old birch too, as Daves specimen)
