"crochet" fungus
I found this today on a piece of tubular loose birch bark.The top surface was just like a bit of crochet work. It was soft and moist. I've browsed through a couple of fungus illustration sites but could find nothing similar. Thought I'd call on all the marvellous expertise on this web site. The section was about 6" by 3". I've included a side view, to show something of the underside. There are tiny rootlike structures just visible on the underside.
