| | | Re Species ID Help Thanks for all your responses and I'm sorry the thread had to close due to all the bickering.
I went back to the mushroom specially to gather more information (smell & taste), measurements, photos with a grey card and detailed close ups, to help with the ID. All in vain it seems. I'm still none the wiser. Not what I'd hoped for as a newbie on a forum. |

In this particular case I don't actually think you would have got a more-definitive response without detailed microscopy to narrow down the options for genus, which would have had to include chemical tests on the spores. This is often the case for species that lack distinctive macroscopic features to help pin them down.

| | | Re: Re Species ID Help Unfortunately Nick this can happen, especially with an open forum.
Stick around, read some past threads and I'm sure you will quickly find out who can help you in a positive and very helpful way.

| | | Re: Re Species ID Help Hi Guys,
Thanks for your messages. It won't put me off and I'm pleased to report that the fungus in question is very likely to be the common funnel cap.
I will endeavor to supply more relevant information and descriptions in future posts.
Cheers
