Always worth considering other suggestions, but
Pholiota alnicola usually looks quite different, with much brighter yellow tones. When fresh,
P. gummosa would have widely scattered squamules on the cap while
P. alnicola would not. This feature is not so clear from the photo.
However, the clincher is the presence or absence of pleurocystidia. In this case Mal found pleurocystidia, as chrysocystidia, which are absent in
Pholiota alnicola.
Keying Mal's specimen out on the available characters, even without spore size,
Pholiota gummosa is the only possibility.
