Large brown capped fungi for ID help please
S. Devon, today. On the side of a path across farmland with oak trees nearby. Sheltered valley with stream.

Approx 3 ins diameter and 4 ins overall height.

My fungi knowledge and ID literature is a bit limited, but I can't find anything to match this size and shape.



Any suggestions?

Almost certainly an Agaricus sp. and almost, almost certainly A.augustus except I have never known it growing in such stony soil.

Thanks for that Neil.

It was at the bottom of a low bank so there might have been better soil underneath the top stones. Those were the only two in the area.
