

A bolete with a cracking cap under Birch which I nicked through the fence. Not one of the usual suspects locally. Stipe was predominantly red, although picture shows the side which was reddish. Reddish colouration not in dots or obvious network. Size about 8 cm.
Colour change on cutting, stipe went red more or less immediately with blue in the base. Thin red line under cap. Rest of cap flesh not changing colour. Pores may have blued.
Having done all this I realised I don't have either complete or the latest info on the colour changes by species. Just a vague recollection that
B. cisalpinus does something like this.
