| | | Help, please for fungi ID Earlier this year our weeping willow in the garden was cut down, as it had died, rather spectacularly in about 6 months. I posted pictures here of a crop of fungi which subsequently appeared on the stump, which turned out, inevitably to be honey fungus.
Now this has appeared on the cut surface, and I'm interested to know what it is called.
many thanks

| | | Re: Help, please for fungi ID Chondrostereum purpureum is what you have often seen on the cut ends of tree stumps.

| | | Re: Help, please for fungi ID Thank you, flaxton. Not having come across this one before I glanced at a few articles on the net, and apparently it is being considered as a cut-stump treatment to control re-sprouting of Rhododendron ponticum in the UK.
I seem to be harbouring a few 'problem' fungi in my garden! |

| | | Re: Help, please for fungi ID It's not a problem fungus if you have rampant Rhododendron invading your garden !
However, if you have any Prunus trees, make sure you only prune them when the Chondrostereum isn't sporulating, otherwise if the spores enters any wounds it can invade and kill the tree.
