strange find
I wondered if this might be a form of cordyceps. It was about 3" long. I found it sticking out of grass and heather under aspen. The white section attracted my attention. It seemed so structured. There are strands of grass around the "stem".

This is a detatched stem of Xylaria hypoxylon. and would have been growing on wood.
