| | | Are these fungi what I think they are?! I found these next to our children's swing, coming out of the wood chippings.
To me they look suspiciously like the Deathcap.
Any thoughts anyone?
I cleaned the table obsessively realising they might be the Deathcap!
Thanks a lot

These are a harmless Pluteus species.

but . . . . . . pink gills? brown cap? wrong habitat? no basal volva? no stem-ring?
apart from that a dead spit for death cap
methinks you may have spots before the eyes
cheers
Chris edit with regard to "toadstool or mushroom?" those are meaningless terms in actual fact, without any scientific basis; often used colloquially but . . .

| | | Re: Are these fungi what I think they are?! Another Q though: does anyone know if this species contains Psilocybin? From wiki: Pluteus - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, says some do.
The reason I ask, is that I handled them a lot, looking them over, and that night, reality was really melting all around me. Since then, I've read that Psilocybin can be absorbed through the skin. Which possibly would mean that I've experienced the effects of LSD for the first time (and last probably) without even intending to.
Presumably the actual type of Pluteus can't be identified from the photo?

Chaz | close to P. cervinus - we don't talk pychotropics on WAB - see: Is my fungus edible or psychotic requests
but frankly you have nothing to worry about, merely touching them

The appearance of these mushrooms in the old orchard really got me interested, and it's not my wish to talk about LSD really, I'm merely relaying what happened.
It seems to me that there must be so many variants of a particular genus, that ultimately it must be (nearly) impossible to classify them all, or indeed know everything about them.

Chaz | Intentional or not, sounds to me like you must have experienced a massive dose (of something) but you sound fine now But that is all irrelevant as you have broken the law BIG TIME.
Best you nip down to your local nick in the morning and CONFESS.
I'm sure the local bobby will be very understanding, will put the kettle on, and will want to learn more about your fascinating experience.
