| | Velvet shield? Hi, a new one from today, it appears close to Velvet shield, Pluteus umbrosus, but no obvious brown edge to gills.
Spore print is light browny though.
There are fibrils on the stem and the cap and a small umbonate top.
Substrate unclear, seemed to be soil based, but lots of rotting beech and sycamore about, so could easily be buried timber - it was also largely covered by bramble.
Size, exactly 1'' across cap. Nothing special smell wise.
Grateful for advice/steer.
Cheers
Ken

John, now look here mate, I'd never even HEARD of P.hispidulus and it just happens to roll off the tip of yer tongue, like it grows at the bottom of yer garden like.
What's the secret ? I had to get my old copy of Courtiecuisse & Duhem out to look it up.

| | | Re: Velvet shield? Thanks John, don't think I've ever seen this one before, will certainly have to keep my eyes skinned in future.
