| | I.D and help re: unknown bracket Hello Everyone,
Is this Artists bracket - Ganoderma applanatum?...it's the layering that makes me wonder if it could be. It's hard to identify the rotting tree trunk it was growing on but there were a few very mature Horse Chestnuts in the vicinity.
Many thanks for any help,
Jean

| | | Re: I.D and help re: unknown bracket It has the shape more associated with G applanatum but they do vary so spores or a view of the internal structure would be the only way forward.

| | | Re: I.D and help re: unknown bracket The rotten tree is a beech by the looks, the fact it is covered in the black ascomycete hypoxylon mummularium also helps Ident the substrate a lot.
I will give you g. applanatum as g australe is a biotrophic parasite and would be panic fruiting (several small mall formed bulbs) rather than activley growing and doing fine as with the necrotrophic G applanatum=lipsiense
In my amateur opinion.

In my amateur opinion. | When you start regularly using upper case letters for the genus, you will be able to say err..." in my more experienced opinion " ?
