This looks like Dog Lichen - a Peltigera species ... Peltigera malacea possibly

I wouldn't want to challenge John on any fungi that wasn't shacking up with an algae... But this looks like p. membranacea* to me. As far as I'm aware malacea doesn't occur in Devon.

p. hymenina and p. horizontalis being the next two commonest dog lichens on the moor (in my limited experience). There are others..
