| | | Help needed re:I.D for 3ft high fungus on mature oak tree Can anyone give me an I.D of this huge specimen that was growing at the base of an old oak tree. It was 3ft tall, soft to the touch and pliable but two days later had collapsed..maybe it's weight had something to do with it, not sure.
But it did give me the chance to photograph the underside

| | | Re: Help needed re:I.D for 3ft high fungus on mature oak tree I often also find it on yew (Taxus) it is thought that it may possibly accumulate toxins from this host:
Leif Ryvarden lists the hosts as:
Quercus (main host)
Alnus glutinosa
Corylus
Fraxinus
Populus
Prunus avium
Pyrus
Robinia
Salix
and additional cultivated trees, and found once in Sweden on Pieca abies

| | | Re: Help needed re:I.D for 3ft high fungus on mature oak tree I've also seen it on Birch and when I reported it on here I was told there were a number of similar records.

| | | Re: Help needed re:I.D for 3ft high fungus on mature oak tree With the extensive list above I would not be surprised to find it on any tree,
I have not had the time or inclination to trawl through the BMS or ABFG database's to look at all the British records.
