| | | Fungi ID Please? I'm not sure about some of these - I can take the images but I'm not hot on IDing them, unfortunately.
Not sure if this
is an immature one of this Phallus impudicus?
Is this some kind of Milkcap?
And I'm at a complete loss re this one -
Lastly -
The first two were in a deciduous/pine area near meres and the last 3 in the Trough of Bowland which also has deciduous/pine but is mainly moorland.

| | | Re: Fungi ID Please? top is a puffball Lycoperdon perlatum
not a milkcap - do a spore print - you'll get a brownish spore print - this could possibly be a Hebeloma - I say possibly
for 'complete loss' it would be useful to see the gills for a start
bottom is a Russula and I don't do them . . . .
please read - Help us to help you identify fungi
cheers
Chris

| | | Re: Fungi ID Please? Thankyou for your help, Chris.
It's not a matter of life and death whether these are IDd - unlike OH's insects. I like fungi but am late on a learning curve with so many other things and my RAM is getting full
Fungus ID is obviously not as simple as my sister makes out - she always fancies herself as a bit of a buff re fungi.
She once told us a fungus in our garden was edible. We didn't eat it and later found out it wasn't!.............. an over developed sense of sibling rivalry, perhaps?
Thanks again and for the link which I had not read (sorry )

All the samples there had developed white patches on the red but I knew they weren't agarics. I thought it may have been scarlet brittlegill but they were all pretty 'puckered' (ie not symmetrically round) so could be Russula sylvestris?
Sorry about the uneducated terms and thankyou for the reply

Acher | When you talk of 'Agaric's' do you mean 'Agaricus' species ?
Agaric is a general term, thought to be introduced to Britain by the Romans, in reference to anything looking like a 'toadstool' (with a cap and stem)
So we have Fly Agaric, Clouded Agaric, Verdigris Agaric and others.

Neil. | Probably. I was thinking of the well know spotty Fly agaric that I oft times see fairies sitting on.......
As I said my terminology and knowledge is a bit iffy. I'm just a photographer who enjoys their beauty who is, here, amongst better qualified 'Fungiphiles' (Just made that one up)

Acher | I'm with you now.
If anything, I may have confused you further in trying to point out the difference between Agaric - the general term for toadstool shaped fungi, and Agaricus - the genus name of a particular group of Agarics.
