Can anyone help me ID this please ...... and please don't give me a hard time for my ignorance as I have noticed that you are a very fiesty lot of people on this forum. (There is no smiley face for 'with trepidation' or I would add it here)







By the way is Clumber Park absolutely and by far the best place to spot max varieties of fungi?

Not sure but they could be (Xylaria polymorpha) dead mans fingers..

Kaleigh is correct it is dead men's fingers

If you look closely at the cut specimen you can see the little round chambers that contain the asci each with eight spores

...and if you can dig up the rest of the body, we may be able to extract some DNA and put a name to the poor chap - fiesty lot ... huh !
