| | | Is this pruinatus Hi
I found this on the lawn. There's Oak and Maple nearby. They were only 2-3cm tall. Brown velvety cap. Yellow tubes, yellow stipe with some red spotting more red at base. Stipe discoloured quickly on touching to blue/green but reverted to yellow after a few minutes.
On cutting thetere was some red at the base and the stem slowly, over 2-3 minutes, discoloured slightly blue/green
I think it might be pruinatus, can anyone shed more light?
Thanks

Xerocomus(Boletus) pruinatus normally has a dark and lumpy cap with bright yellow stem. The flesh slowly blueing strongly after some minutes.
Internally yours looks like X porosporus but although it is young there is no sign of the characteristic cracking. Growing under oak with the stipe turning blue and a red area at the base I would go for X cisalpinus.

I've trawled a fair bit of information but the more I see the harder it gets.
I took this photo a couple of weeks ago in the same place on the lawn when there was more moisture around.
I'm assuming it's the same one. That looked even more like pruinatus. I did find an older one a few feet away (still small) which had a cracked top but I thought it was just dried out. So that reinforces your suggestion of B. cisalpinus.
Thanks for the reply Mal | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
