| | | is this asterophora lycoperdoides, please I found this in July/August in a woodland with abundant fungi - many cep (I've not even tried to identify those, yet - they were enormous), russulas and several amanita caesarea.
At the time, I didn't pay much attention to the quality of the photo I took of this one, but I hope someone can confirm my identification - or otherwise - please.

| | | Re: is this asterophora lycoperdoides, please Where did you pick up the name : Marshmallow Fungus from, as the accepted British common name is Powdery Piggyback - nice find by the way.

| | | Re: is this asterophora lycoperdoides, please Oops Neil, I left that name on the picture accidentally. It was what I called it when I first saw it, and it was used only for a computer search.
Sorry - I hadn't meant to leave the name attached. I'd not seen one before and it's shape just reminded me of a marshmallow (a little - no?) - powdery piggyback doesn't have quite the same ring, somehow.
In French the name is Nyctalis Porteur d'Etoiles - which (since I can't find an exact translation of Nyctalis) means something like day-blind star carrier.
I've just checked the date on the original photo - I took it on 25th August, so later than I'd thought.
Thank you for your input.

| | | Re: is this asterophora lycoperdoides, please Sorry Mal - you questioned the date and I've replied to Neil. Thank you for your comment - you ensured I check what I should have checked (and not guessed) in the first place.
