| | | Help ID'ing some mushrooms Hi,
I found these in predominately birch woods, with lots of moss/peat around. I assumed I'd be able to identify them easily (hence the lack of detailed photos/descriptions), but my usual sources have failed me.
This first, I think is amanita verna - wrong season, I know, but it tested false to the KOH test (so not a.virosa), and tested positive to a Meixner test, so I know it has amatoxins in it. The cap was white, with some remanants of the veil on it near the edge of the cap. Gills white, stem white, ring on the stem, volva on the bulbous base.
The second one I think may be Lycoperdon pyriforme ?
Size was about 3-4" across - so probably too big.
The third one was not a bolete, about 4" in diameter - other than that, I don't have any other details, sorry
And the last one I thought would be an easy identification with such a wavy cap, but no luck. |

Probably not quite enough detail in the photo's for a positive ID.

| | | Re: Help ID'ing some mushrooms I'm at a total loss here, you seem able to apply a KOH and Meixner test and with the specimen in front of you are unable to ID it, yet you send us in a lousy overexposed shot, showing no detail whatsoever and expect us to ID it for you ?
We do not perform miracles on this site.
Sorry to be blunt, but if you can do these tests, then you should know better.

Neil. | Neil, Neil, Neil... King of the blunt post...  I've translated Neil's post for you below;
'I'm a little confused here. You've got the knowledge to use a KOH and Meixner test but you've not provided photographs with enough detail to visually be able to have a go. For people to be able to identify your fungi, you'll have to supply in focus, well exposed, clear shots of various parts of each fungus. -bluntness -stroppy Neil moment'

[END OF TRANSLATION] | Sorry, I did not know that Fundisi did not realise his/her photo was a complete and utter waste of time. I mean, having the knowledge to do these 'tests' in the first place is no reason to suppose that trumping up this photo (which the poster admits lacks detail) is not going to be very frustrating to people willing to help.
And seeing that this is not Fundisi's first post, one would assume he/she would know what type of quality the photo should be before posting.
So Fundisi, if you're listening, I offer no apologies in this instance, purely on the grounds that this is not your first post, and that by now you should know the type of quality needed.
By the way, I'm curious as to why you carry out a Meixner test - it's not an essential test to aid identification.
Neil.
AFTERTHOUGHT: If you happen to be under 18, then I DO apologise for being blunt, and hope you remain with us, if only to give me a piece of your mind !!

Matt | A.verna is not authentically British - more of a 'Southern European' species. This has been misapplied to A. virosa, white forms of A.phalloides and A.citrina var. alba.
There is also a A.verna var. grisea but this is down as a nomen dubium.
Neil.
