| | | Re: Help with Fungi please Technically good photos Dai, but what about a little more information that would go a long way in helping towards identification?
Sizes?
Habitat?
Substrate?
Smell? Help us to help you identify fungi
Regards,
Mike. |

| | | Re: Help with Fungi please middle one is Amanita rubescens about to pick up its pension (it looks to have already picked up a couple of mould species)
I know conditions have not been favourable recently, but gone/going over fungi are not at the ideal stage to name with certainty, no matter how carefully photographed I'm afraid

| | | Re: Help with Fungi please Sorry about not providing enough information Mike, Chris. In future I will have to carry a note book with me and take some location shots.
The first 2 were under a Scotts Pine I think. The first one was about 22cm
and the second was about 8cmm.
Too be honest the only reason I photographed these was because I use the images as reference shots and for textures in my 3D modeling.
I will try harder.

| | | Re: Help with Fungi please Hi Dai,
When you say you do 3D modelling, do you do fungi as well ? if so, and it sounds like you do, can you post some photos of your work - never know, somebody may want to buy something.
Getting back to the photos, by not including the habitat it was found in, it's a bit like asking to identify an Englishman without his bowler hat or a Frenchman without his beret. (and as for that middle one - getting the police to identify a decomposed body pulled out of the Thames)

| | | Re: Help with Fungi please Hope you get them identified Dai.
I got LOADS of different Fungi but can't put in here to be Identified as I not got a clue what kind of trees were around etc. So I just put into my Zenfolio and Hope that someone someday will identify for me.
See you at Wetlands one day.

Dai | i met a chap in a wheel chair in Clumber last year, who was taking pics of fungi, and while chatting with him, it turned out he was not so much interested in the fungi, but more in their textures, as he used them in photoshop, although i cant remember for what purpose he used them,
it made me think at the time, what a great range of textures you could find in fungi, to say nothing of the colour range,
it seems theres more than one way to enjoy fungi

Dennis | It's always worth posting them on here Dennis, as long as you make a point of saying that you didn't note the nearby trees |

| | | Re: Help with Fungi please If anybody is unable to identify the nearest trees, the simplest thing to do is either include some needles or leaves in the fungi shot, or take a separate photo, but don't be fooled into thinking a certain fungus is a grassland species just because it may be growing in grass - it could be attached to buried dead wood or growing in association with fine roots of a tree which could be twice the height of the tree away.
In months when there are no leaves about, sometimes a shot of the bark from say, 1 metre away can be of help, assuming there is a tree nearby.

| | | Re: Help with Fungi please I shall remember that from now on. Take picks of some trees and area. Did not think of that.
If any of you have time on your hands I would appreciate it if you could have a quick look in my Zenfolio to see if you can name any. From there I could then put some images into W.A.B....
