| | | wasp fungi ! in Clumber this morning, at the edge of a path, among young birch,
I spotted what I thought was a bracket fungi on a tree root,
only to find, when getting a closer look, it was a large wasps nest, full of very stroppy wasps
I had to beat a hasty retreat, as they did not like being disturbed at all,
by the time we returned on the way back to the car, they had calmed down and I managed to get a hasty shot of the nest,
Turkey tail with a sting in the tail

| | | Re: wasp fungi ! We have all done it and still do!!!!
I think I am an expert in poo! especially dog and bird.
Why is it that when think hey that looks a bit different or unusual 99% of the time on closer inspection it turns out to be poo!!!
And why are all the nice specimins buried under loads of bramble or holly, gauranteed to chop hand legs and feet to bits. And destroy the specimin when you try to remove it.
AT LEAST it shows you are looking.
Wishing you better luck in the future.
regards tn.

| | | Re: wasp fungi ! Hi TN,
what really surprised me was how quick I can still run
which is something you don't have to do with poo
we did find a group of Brown roll rim's which looked like someone's dog had deposited a poo on one of them, but it was just the distorted body of the fungi, which was a very close look alike
just another of the hidden joys of fungi hunting
