This is a touring exhibition from the Royal Botanic Gardens in Edinburgh which is currently at the National Botanic Garden of Wales, in a side room of the Great Glasshouse. The NBG is well worth a visit and when we went for the day last Friday (making the most of the warm sunny weather) this little show was an added bonus. It isn't very big but is well put together (there is an expensive book to go with it too which I couldn't afford) and included uses for fungi and moulds (bread making, dyes for cloth etc.), fungal diseases and displays of life-size [fake] British fungi in perspex boxes.
The light levels were low and with the glass it wasn't easy to take photos but here are a few that hopefully might be of interest:
These giants were at the entrance!
This is an (apparently real!) Hungarian hat made from tinder fungus:
And finally, a cautionary tale!
The From Another Kingdom exhibition is in Wales until the end of February 2013.
