We often read that "such and such" only grows on soil, or that it only grows on wood, etc. etc.

But how many times do we see species growing in places that the books and learned information would have us believe they shouldn't be found?

I found one in a similar situation with a Pine cone last year: -



Albeit with that one, the cone had some soil embedded, so the fungus could conceivably have been growing in that.
