| | Kids need your help I'm helping to run a Forest School for 4-7 yr old. I've been around the site today and taken photos of various fungi there. As I've been unable to identify them all I wondered if anyone could help. It's turned into a mammoth task.
Thanks

Thanks | Hi Forest School and welcome to WAB
I removed your link which I assume you inserted by mistake.
This may help you: Help us to help you identify fungi
I should point out that links to external images are not allowed.

| | | Re: Kids need your help It would be negligent to not help the kids. Please place some images up on the fungi forum and I'm sure people will be able to help identify them. peace J

Btw. 4-7 year olds dont really need to know the latin names and will probably forget the common names unless they sound funny. Aim to keep it as basic as possible. Explain the different environments they grow in, and perhaps label a diagram (cap, gills, stipe).
Otherwise if you are also educating 4-7 year-old-Parents , then baffle them with plenty of Latin vocab. (as much as possible). The longer the words the better so they cant take notes.. lol
All the best

| | | Re: Kids need your help Hi,
I'm extremely busy, but as nobody seems to want to have a bash at this, I might as well have a go, so:
Second batch of photos:
1. Hypholoma Sp. (probably Sulphur Tuft or sim.)
2. Laccaria sp. (Type of Deceiver)
3. This needs to develop a bit more to get an idea.
4. Trametes versicolor.
5. Too far gone.
6. Could be Kuehneromyces mutabilis, but equally could also be one of the poisonous similar species. We need to see a shot of the stem to be sure.
First batch of photos:
1. Hypholoma sp. again.
2. Stereum hirsutum.
3 & 4. Honey Fungus.

| | | Re: Kids need your help Thanks Neil, big help. It's hard when kids get sent to you as the expert, and you haven't got a clue. Mind you, I've developed quite an interest now. Never realised there were so many species and varieties. Thanks for your time and sharing your expertise. |

| | | Re: Kids need your help Hi There,
As you are becoming aware, identifying fungi from photos, (and in very many cases when you have the actual fungi in front of you ), is not easy, and I'm afraid that I can't add anything more to Niel's ID attempts.
As John mentioned in an earlier post, with the link to: - Help us to help you identify fungi
If you could provide more information / gill shots etc. on these, or with any future ID requests, there may be a better chance of more definitive ID's.
Best of luck,
Regards,
Mike. |
