| | | Local Fungi Groups - West Country Hi
I recently joined The Cotswold Fungus Group & the North Somerset and Bristol Fungus Group.
I'm hope to join the groups for some Forays this year & I wondered if anyone here on the forum were also members?

| | | Re: Local Fungi Groups - West Country I was born in and spent my first 20 years in Bristol Sally, so do keep us posted with how you get on and the places you go to, and do send in lots of photos of your finds with one or two scenic shots to see if I can remember the places.
Really miss cycling all over the Mendips and the Cotswolds !
Neil.

| | Re: Local Fungi Groups - West Country I certainly will do Neil!
I lived in Bristol for 17 years, moved away for 3 & have just moved back. I started my fungi foraging while I was living in the Salisbury area so had the joy of the New Forest on my doorstep which is fantastic for fungi!
Having said that there are some wonderful places around Bristol & despite being back in the city (well outskirts in fact) I am determined to discover all the lovely countryside & woodlands around.
I have to say I am glad that Savernake Forest is still just an hour away as it was from Amesbury; as it is one of my favourite places
And now of course the Wye Valley is on just half an hour away...fab! |

Took me a bit longer than that, I had to chuck me bike on the Aust Ferry and get off at Beachley.
But the cycle ride up the Wye Valley and to Tintern Abbey was breathtaking.
If there is any of the original untouched Wildwood left in Britain, surely it has to be on the banks of the Wye Valley. (and all those fungi to be discovered !)
Did you know Bob Dylan had a promotional shot taken at the Aust Ferry terminal in 1966 to promote a film about him called 'No Direction Home' ?
