| | | Two small and different fungi both growing on leaves HI.
I appreciate this is a big ask but, can anyone id these two for me please.
Both found today. both found growing on leaves under sweet chestnut trees but, at different sites. Maybe they are the same species?? the first was straight like a twig. the second more feather like in appearance. both pure white. bhoth overall 10mm in height.
Thanks tn.

Thanks tn. | Hi tn again
The first looks like a Cordycep. Was there any signs of the remains of an insect?
The second is quite common but I can't for the life of me remember it's name

Neil. | Does this have a specific name Neil? I suppose it is just mycelium thread like hyphae

John | it's just - as Neil suggests - mycelial growth; if you spend any time rootling about through damp fallen leaves/debris you'll find similar growths
if you could do the DNA you could name the fungus ; as I understand it when root samples of exotic trees at Kew have been examined quite a few fungi "never recorded for Britain" have been found - they just don't fruit
is this the future of foraying? why waste time hanging around for toadstools to deign to appear when you can ID them from a soil sample? somehow I suspect that won't appeal to many on WAB

| | | Re: Two small and different fungi both growing on leaves Many thanks all for the input. I seem to find this "mycelium" a lot. It looks prety and now at last I know what it is. I may even have a go at "growing it on" to see what develops.
regards tn.

| | | Re: Two small and different fungi both growing on leaves Is the photo on the left the same as in the Cordyceps thread ?
This is different to the other photos on the right which are just normal leaf litter mycelium.
