I'm not going to guess the bolete (as i have a history of getting this wrong
but try Helvella crispa - white saddle for the other. |

Having found the treasure you promptly dig it up I see.
Your white specimens are Helvella crispa and your Boletus seems very much like the rare B.appendiculatus, but I'm no expert on Bolete's.
You would also need to cut it in half and send in a photo of the cut flesh so that we can see any possible colour changes.

| | | Re: treasure under my Oak ! Hi There,
I have cut it and the results are below.
The smell was what I would call typically mushroomy - Possibly slight woody.
Does this help with the Bolete ID ?
Thanks a million

| | | Re: treasure under my Oak ! I cannot really say - there is supposed to be a little bluing at the apex of the stem when cut and even the tubes are supposed to be faintly blue when bruised if this is B.appendiculatus.
So have I been barking up the wrong tree ?
Whadya think chaps ?

Mal | I reckon this is what it might be - I had B.impolitus 3 days ago with just a very faint smell of iodine, it's not always easy to detect.
