| | | Peziza ?? help with ID please .. Always presuming it is Peziza of course - this was on sandy soil amongst some "fly ash" dumped in the area. It seems quite distinctive but I'm stuck using Collins/Phillips.
These were some of the smaller fruit bodies about 15-20 mm across but there were some larger clumps which seemed to have lost some of the detail.
Many thanks for any pointers, JohnB |

I'm pretty sure that these are very dry Black Bulgar - Bulgaria inquinans.

These are some of the larger fruit bodies, the small one to the rear right is about 15mm across. These are dry considering the rain we had last night.

| | | Re: Peziza ?? help with ID please .. Hi John,
Looking at these, they don't look like Black Bulgar and if they were all on soil/ash rather than wood then my original suggestion of that was way off.
Might possibly be one of the Tarzetta's
Regards,
Mike. |

Chris | Many thanks for the offer Chris but unfortunately I didn't collect any samples. Looks like a return visit is called for

I now have a sample: Me, Nettlerunner and John when to the site today.
I have tried to key it out with Brian Spooners key, and also with Ellis and Ellis but it will not key out satisfactory.
It has warty spores (warts clearly visible at 400x) 17-19.5 x 8.7 - 10.4 with one large oil drop.
The paraphyses are thin around 2.5 microns wide, and thin walled, septate with straight tips. I was unable to find any swolen tips to the paraphyses which put an end to all the possible key outcomes.
I will dry my specimen ready to send to you. Can you PM me an address
Peter
