| | | Unidentified - Found in Pine Forest Found these today in a pine forest, all growing on the ground in piles of the needles.
Set 1:
Set 2: Had a yellow spore print.
Set 3:
Set 4 : *I thought this one might be a bay bolete but it doesn't seem to turn blue when bruised.
Thanks for your help!

| | | Re: Unidentified - Found in Pine Forest hello - and welcome to WAB
set 1 is Hygrophoropsis aurantiaca the false chanterelle (and, surprisingly to many, a bolete!) - note how the gills fork and then fork again (and sometimes yet further)
sets2 and 3 are Russula species - Russulas are one of the very few groups of fungi large, small, or minute that I don't do I'm afraid . . .
I can't see enough detail on the last one to comment
best wishes
Chris

| | | Re: Unidentified - Found in Pine Forest Thanks so much Chris! I am such a novice but it makes me happy that I was guessing the top ones were false chanterelles and I thought the second set was a russula too. Finally getting the knack of this I think.
Thanks for your input. Also do you have any tips as far as reading material goes? We've been using the river cottage book and How to Identify Edible Mushrooms by Harding. |

| | | Re: Unidentified - Found in Pine Forest I have had them when dry that do not blue a lot or quickly but from the photo it can be nothing else.

| | | Re: Unidentified - Found in Pine Forest The set 2 appears to be Russula caerulea, found in association with conifers and with distinctive umbo, unusual with Russula species.
