| | | Mystery fungus Hi Guy's. Out in the woods yesterday and snapped this little chap.(photo in the Image Gallery) Have been baffled as to what it is. Have spent all today searching the Gallery and not found one picture like it. Now I know I will not have made history by finding a rarity, so I really would love to identify it. Can any of you more knowledgeable people help me out. Many thanks, Cypher. |

| | | Re: Mystery fungus Hi Cypher,
You will stand more of a chance of getting finds identified if you link the photo(s) to your post. - Some people won't bother, (and I wouldn't really blame them), to search for your photos elsewhere!!
Here's info from a previous thread, on how to get your photos in to your posts:- http://www.wildaboutbritain.co.uk/fo...tml#post804316
Your fungus appears to be of the Xerocomus / Xerocomellus section of the Boletes.
eg. possibly something like Xerocomus porosporus.
Although without more information as to types of nearby trees, substrate, photo of stem & underside of cap, section through the cap/stem (to show internal features and reveal any signs of "blueing" and effects of bruising) etc. etc.,
See:- Help us to help you identify fungi,
I doubt whether you will get a definite species ID.
Regards,
Mike.

| | | Re: Mystery fungus Hi Lancashire Lad. Thank you very much for the valuable info. I realise that I have fouled up there by not linking my photo to the post. I shall not fall for that one again. I have been having thoughts that this one was linked to the Xerocomus prosporus, but could not be certain. Beetles are my main interest, but having found these specimens I could not resist photographing them Thanks again. Regards Walt. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
