I know next to nothing about fungi or mushrooms, although I've always found them fascinating.
We came across these purple ones growing in an area close together... the purple ones all grouped within about a metre of one another, and the red one was about two metres away from the purple ones, (which were sort of a magenta-tinged lavender... the flash did change their colour a bit.)
The red one's cap was thick and lumpy, with a stout, short stem. The purple ones had longer, slender stems, that looked slightly rough - the caps of the smaller ones were like button-shaped umbrellas, that opened out to a flat, frilled cap on the larger ones.
The woodland we found them in is mainly hornbeam and mature oaks- they were growing on the shallow rise around a slightly hollowed-out clearing.
Sorry about the quality of the photos- it was getting dark and just starting to rain... and taken on a camera phone, which doesn't help!
I'd never seen purple mushrooms before, so thought these might be interesting.
