| | My mystery mushroom! Ok, this one is a complete mystery to me!
Found on grass in the vicinity of birch, in a large cluster. They are very firm, both in cap and in stem. I found some nearby which were larger, and the caps were much paler. I couldn't get a spore print from them. The flesh and gills are unchanging on cutting/bruising
I looked through my book (Roger Phillips), and I'm at a loss. I thought they might be Collybia maculata but these seem darker than that.
Any ideas? |

| | | Re: My mystery mushroom! A gill shot and - especially - a spore-print would really help here
I can't help thinking oldish Rhodocollybia maculata . . . .

Chris I couldn't get a spore print. I'll try again though.
Here are another couple of pics of the gills.
Thank you for all the suggestions - I'm going to look in my book now! |

| | | Re: My mystery mushroom! yes, I'm sure you were correct with your first suggestion (I hadn't noticed that you had already suggested maculata) when I posted . . . . .

| | | Re: My mystery mushroom! Here is a close up of the gills. They were unchanging in colour on bruising, that I could see. I thought the gills looked adnexed, but I'm not very sure!! |

| | | Re: My mystery mushroom! Thanks Adam; the caps look similar to Hebeloma pallidluctosum but the gills of those are clay coloured, and on the ones I found, they're white.
Thanks Chris; looks like they are Collybia maculata then. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
