Interesting fungi with spines

Hi guys,

Admittedly, this wasn't found in Britain, but was in the Pyrenees at roughly 1500m asl, but I thought I'd share it with you and see if you could put any suggestions out there for which species it may be.

Habitat: Beech/ coniferous woodland.
Substrate: Leaf litter/ potentially growing from the base of a beech tree that was below that leaf litter.
Smell: I'm rubbish with smells, but it was pleasant.
Spines: 1-2mm long, purplish brown.

Looks similar to the Hydnellum concrescens I used to get at the base of an oak where I used to live.

Hydnellum concrescens?

It certainly looks like a Hynellum: I have never found one so will leave it to others to confirm a species name.

As no one else has given you a species name I have looked in 'British Chanterelles & Tooth Fungi' by Pegler, Roberts & Spooner. and just from the photo in this book I am reasonably sure it is Hydnellum ferrugineum which is only recorded in fifteen 10Km squares in England. Had you had found it in England I think there would have been a lot more interest from this forum!
