that has come across as a bit rude myself for which I apologise - and at least one of the four words offered here is 'please'; but people who offer identifications on WAB are busy people, giving up their own time (the most precious commodity in mycology), and an indication that you have made some effort (a photo of the underside, note of habitat etc.) would not come amiss

I think it's birch polypore Piptoporus betulinus - with a bit more info, that would have been a definite

Just to clarify things a bit more - usually Birch trunks are quite easy to recognise and the fungus you show here only grows on dead or dying birch trees, so if you had photographed it still in-situ, anybody with a little experience would have recognised it straight away.

The fact that you or somebody else had removed it and taken it home to photograph, plus the unusual shape with those castlelated edges and with no other information to go on would normally leave most people puzzled, but luckily Chris knew what is was (and me !) and came to your rescue.
