| | Fungal growth and lunar cycles? Bit of an out there topic, I know, I just lit a joss stick
But is there, in the opinions of you learned fellows here, any truth in the theory?
I would be interested to know your thoughts. |

This was discussed on WAB somewhere, about 4 years ago with inconclusive results.

| | | Re: Fungal growth and lunar cycles? The gravitational pull of the moon effects the natural ebb and flow of water, This much is known. Many framers also sow or reap crops on the wax or wane of the moon. Since many fungi are reliant upon an availability of water, then why not?
Likewise in iconography and folklore mushrooms are often depicted beside the moon.
To add 'The Moon and Mushroom' (public house) at Swilland Inn near Ipswich in Suffolk is an award-winning 16th century pub serving home cooked food and real ales.

Peace J | Delete 'Inn" - the pub is at Swilland, just to the north of Ipswich.
This used to be one of my regular holes until the landlord, who was a fungi enthusiast left about 5 years ago, but they still do an excellent choice of real ales.
Getting back to subject - the last time this was discussed, I believe somebody with engineering experience said for the moon to have any effect in 'drawing' fungi to the surface the moon would need to be twice as big or have a lot more pulling power or something along those lines.
It might be a bit of an uplifting experience for pregnant women if the moon ever did have this pulling power.
