| | | Re: 3 for ID please The first is almost certainly Pluteus cervinus, but it could also be Pluteus atromentarius or even P.pouzarianus.
If the stump was PINE, then P.pouzarianus is most likely, or even P.atromentarius.
If a DECIDUOUS stump, then P.cervinus is more likely.
Thankfully, you have included a shot of the underside showing plain white (immature) gills. This immediately rules out P.atromentarius for this has a dark edge to the gills.
So if you can remember what the stump was, you know which of the remaining 2 suggestions it is likely to be.
You give no information for the 3rd photo, but Gymnopilus penetrans is possible.
Again, you give no info for the last 2 photos, but these appear to be the Oakbug Milk Cap, Lactarius quietus, but there are others that look similar.
It all depends upon what trees were nearby.
Neil.

I'm sure you could get to grips with a bit of tree ID? If not, then if you include some of the nearest tree leaves in your pictures that would help those looking at your pictures to help more with an ID.
Thanks

Andy | Thank you Andy i think i will change tack, as its photos i take, so i have no need for the latin names, i have just bought 2 books so these will help me a lot, ie if a fungi is lets say a Mycena and there are lets say 8 species of Mycena, all i need for my web site would be Mycena i really couldnt get so serious about fungi, i hope this isnt taken as a critisism of the fungi people because it isnt, i wouldnt do that so thank you to all the members who helped me out in the past, but i think its best if i stick to Birds & Wildflowers cheers...Ray

| | | Re: 3 for ID please That's a shame, because that is an excellent suggestion from Andy and is so easy to do.
In fact it is such a good idea, that maybe the sticky should be adjusted to include this simple idea - one would instantly know if deciduous or coniferous, and if the leaves are laid out properly, one should be able to narrow it down to tree species.
Even with Pine needles, if laid out clearly, and we can see if they are 2 pronged (Scots or Corsican Pine) or other, that would help even further.
Thinking about it even more, this should be STANDARD PRACTICE for anybody sending in a photo of a fungi to be identified, to be sure to incorporate leaves from the nearest tree in the photo.
It's not really too much to ask.
Neil.
PS. Ray, I'm not aiming this at you, you have given your reasons and we just have to live with that. |
