Growing on an old conifer stump, it had a wonderfull purpleish to black colour
Any ideas much appreciated

| | | Re: Bracket for id please Sorry, I seem to have to crop the photos quite drastically to get them down to size -- the largest was about 12 inches wide and roughly 6 inches deep, there were also a couple of rosettes of the same species on the ground these had a diameter of around 6 inches

You shouldn't need to crop your images at all - other than for aesthetic reasons.
Doing what you are currently doing, is removing much of what might be very useful information - which would otherwise be shown in the full photo(s).
What you should be doing, is resizing the images so that they comply with WAB's upload requirements.
(You will need image editing software of some sort in order to do that).
If you aren't sure how to go about resizing your images, just search on WAB's photography forum - there are several threads on that very subject.

The stages of this species are pretty amazing from yellow to purple to brown.
