| | | Bolete? Identification please Taken today in woodland Northamptonshire. Most found in burnt patches with Quercus rober. First thought was Devil's Bolete Boletus satanas - not sure I am a beginner on fungi. Turned blue almost instantaneous when opened. 15 cm in Dia.

| | | Re: Bolete? Identification please looks like Boletus radicans - though others on this site know their boletes better than I do . . .

| | | Re: Bolete? Identification please I'm not up to date with Boletes, but I'd agree with Chris, although there does seem to be quite a few reddish 'areas' on this specimen.
However, B.satanas, when mature, has red pores and a very red stem and is deffo' not this.

| | | Re: Bolete? Identification please The "rooting" stipe the pale blue flesh and the cracking cap all help to confirm Chris's identification of Boletus radicans.

| | | Re: Bolete? Identification please Cheers guys, many of these species were already "dug up" and this is the first fungi I have ever seen suddenly change colour when exposed to the air - really interesting thanks.
