I'm unsure as to what your very interesting fungi are, but I just want to say that ALL fungi are safe to have in your garden with kids around - it's just a question of educating them not to put things in their mouths, or if too young to understand, keeping an eye on the children as any responsible parent should.
Hopefully, we can now concentrate of trying to find a name for your fungus.

| | | Re: are these safe to have in garden Now having had a chance to weigh things up, I think this is likely to be an odd looking Blackening Wax Cap, Hygrocybe conica. But this is not a positive ID.

Now it is up to you to look up this fungus and decide whether you think it right to destroy or keep such a beautiful fungus.

Just to say that having waxcaps in your garden suggests the land may have been a farm meadow at some point.
They are many types of waxcaps and they come in all colours, all very pretty and some are quite rare such as the pink waxcap - Hygrocybe calyptriformis, also known as the Ballerina.
I would enjoy them as you would flowers.
Welcome to WAB btw

| | | Re: are these safe to have in garden I was going to type that this is not known to be poisonous, but there are rules on what members can and cannot say, so it is safe to say you can safely touch ANY fungus as you cannot be poisoned by touching - it is only by consuming a poisonous species that you will become ill.
Neil.
EDIT: OOOPS ! John slipped in another post before me, so I 'd better clarify that the above opening was referring only to the Blackening Wax Cap.
