| | | unidentified fungi Hoped someone could help with this growing at the bottom of our new garden
As per sticky...
What it was growing on (host / substrate):
wood chippings and cut trees from the garden
What was growing nearby?
evergreen, conifer. other fungi of the same type, smaller ones looked more rounded, whereas bigger ones seemed to frill up as in the background of the picture.
Does the fungus have a distinctive smell?
just like a shop bought mushroom, not very helpful i know!
Colour
yellowy golden
Note the texture of the fungus:
smooth and glossy, dry to the feel
Hope this helps

just for a bit of further info - is that just wood-chip or a partial fire-site? is a shot of the gills and their attachment to the stem possible? a spore-print to check the colour of the spores? (picking is allowed) . . . .
oh and check out this thread Is my fungus edible or psychotic requests - we don't mention edbility on this forum . . . . . ( edit oh maybe that was just my imagination )
best wishes
Chris

as far as i know it's not a fire site, no evidence, we just moved in.
not sure how i would spot a spore point, I'm new to this. Fascinating really. |

| | | Re: unidentified fungi Hi Mairy,
This is proving to be a little difficult as it looks like these fungi are of a type that prefers burnt ground or carbon, and going through a list, none seem to match.
They all seem to have a distinct 'umbo' in the middle of the cap, which should help, but I'm stumped on this one.
Perhaps I'm off the mark and these are not a species that prefers burnt ground - but I'm still stumped though.

I think you could well have a Conocybe there, in which case you can't take it any further without microscopical examination, I'm afraid
best wishes
