| | | Found some lepiota's I found these 2 specimins on some soil which a mole dug up in the garden, them mole's do do some good!
I believe these are Macrolepiota rhacodes?
They bruise red to the touch very quickly smell fairly pleasant. |

following the recent article in Field Mycology on the rachodes group these would appear to be Chlorophyllum brunneum* - that marginate bulb is a major pointer
microscopy would make things simpler - to quote the article in FM (not FHM ) "
Notes: . . . records of C. rachodes should be treated with caution without field notes and microscopic examination."
unfortunately yet another area where things are not as straightforward as was previously thought - see also: Chlorophyllum
best
Chris * = Macrolepiota rhacodes var. hortensis (Pilát) Wasser
= Macrolepiota rhacodes var. bohemica (Wichanský) Bellù & Lanzoni

Reason: adding synonymy

| | | Re: Found some lepiota's Thanks very much for your replys guys, its confused me as when typing the name Chlorophyllum brunneum on google i get shaggy parasol come up but i believe shaggy parasol to be Macrolepiota rhacodes.
Im not saying i disagree i just find that confusing maybe the person who uploaded a photo on google mislabeled the name would be more understanding.
Was great to see some good sized fungi in the garden boarders! Beats them artifical ones huh! |

- don't treat everything you see on the internet as gospel - people often do not update web pages to stay in line with current thinking
- the current name for 'Macrolepiota rachodes' is Chlorophyllum rhacodes, because it has been proved not to be so closely related to Macrolepiota procera (parasol mushroom) as was previously thought
- the use of English names, while it might appear to make things easier, particularly for beginners, can actually cause confusion - the scientific names are at least ruled by strict laws under ICBN; if you don't want to have to learn both the scientific name and the English name, perhaps its best to make sure you know the former - there are (reliable) sources to check on current usage, e.g.: Species list - British Fungi
best
Chris

| | | Re: Found some lepiota's ...the Mycology not staying still bit;
Once you learn both names, be fully prepared for them (usually both scientific and common) to be changed within a short stretch of time.
