| | | Bugs on the Fung No idea on the species, but guessing the little orange sacks are eggs or mites ?

| | | Re: Bugs on the Fung The "sacs" are the larval stage of a Trombiculid mite. They can be found on most insects and spiders. They are predatory in the free-living adult stage on small invertebrates and do not present a threat to humans (or other animals). |

| | | Re: Bugs on the Fung This is a phenomenon known as phoresis; one often sees phoretic mites on harvest spiders, and here are some amazing images of Opiliones from rain forests - many of which if you look carefully are carrying phoretic mites - literally hitching a ride: The World's Best Photos of harvestmen and rainforest - Flickr Hive Mind
I remember many years ago when I attended a workshop on Laboulbeniomycetes at Kew talking to Meredith Blackwell about her research into the important role that phoretic mites play in distributing the spores of Pyxidiophora - her profile page is at: GulfBase - Dr. Meredith Blackwell - I don't know why but I always find the name 'Baton Rouge' wonderfully evocative (I don't think I have any cajun blood, but I love the music) . . . .
Back to fungi here is a page about the incredible Labouls: Laboulbeniomycetes - you will see there's quite a bit about the Pyxidiophorales and the role of (in this case) phoretic mites on dung beetles
This kind of links in with this thread: Fungus - Insect interactions
cheers
Chris
