| | | The sickner confirmation Is this the sickner I found it among leaf litter in mixed woodland..
I don't want to get into a debate on the edibility but I was handling this and about half and hour later I put my fingers in my mouth..
Should I be concerned I didn't eat any of it but need a pos ID..
Cheers Elaine.. |

Don't worry, even if it was R. emetica, you will be absolutely fine unless a few of them fell in your mouth
Difficult to say what it is, but I see no Pine needles and so I would immediately discount R. emetica. Could be Russula nobilis but it's a hard genus to identify without several defining characteristics and habitat info.
Don't panic Elaine, you'll be fine |

Don't panic Elaine, you'll be fine | I am sure I will..I feel fine so far..
it was in the vicinity of pine trees but under a deciduous part in the shade.
I took the small first one to another location for a better pic in the sun hence the handling then I found some hazelnuts and tried one in the green then realised I had been handling unknown fungi..

| | | Re: The sickner confirmation i should add that mycologists and mycophagists have been safely nibbling away at red Russula species for hundreds of years as an aid to identification - it is a standard test.
You need to find out how pungent a species is and how quickly the burning sensation becomes evident. This test is also used in Lactarius and other species. As long as you spit out the sample, you will come to no harm, and as for washing hands after handling - forget it, you have to ingest (eat) the fungus to have any chance of being poisoned.

| | | Re: The sickner confirmation Thank you Neil,
I am still here and I didn't feel any burning and didn't ingest any...
But I will not be tasting it to get an ID either there might be maggots in it..lol | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
