In the second pic it looks like a fat caterpillar curled up in the hole. Well it does to me!

Well done that man.
Neil.
EDIT: I know, your step ladder was too short.

Ta Neil
As a tree climber, ladders aren't really an obstical for my fung hunting
Do like a nice mushroom to chomp down on, but tbh I've never gone out with the intention to harvest, just tend to concentrate on capturing an image.
Probably just forget about the eating opportunity whilst in the throws of admiration for such a cool & interesting kingdom

Thanks Laura,
I didn't think there was a need to get aerial with these ones, as the Laeti was only at 3m. I just zoomed from the ground.
But in hindsight I wish I had got closer to get clearer images.
The image of me taking the shot of the Daedalea was from 15m so no choice with that one, as the aborted bracket was far too hard to id from the ground.

What type of Oak was it ?

Neil. | Hi Niel,
sent sample to the Jodrell which came back inconclusive due to lack of fertile parts (aborted)
Host is Q. petraea (I think)
Agreed it is very high for D. quercina.
(But then I find all sorts of species fruiting at heights that they are not noted for)
A group consisting of myself, Andy overall, Gerrit Keiser & a few other Tree colleagues all believe it to be Daedalea partly by visual & also by the dead/dysfunctional strata it's fruiting from. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
