Red Russula
The Russula genus is a scary prospect for me when it comes to identification. I presumed that this one wouldn't be that difficult, due to it's bright red colouring, but I was wrong....

This specimen was found growing amongst the litter of broad leaf trees. Red cap, white gills and stipe. The taste was extremely hot.



All suggestions welcome.

Hi Wayne,

This is most likely going to be a species from the emetica complex of which there are a number, such as R. nobilis or R. sylvestris. If in Beech woodland, the former. Tough the Russula's but great looking fungi.
