| | | Help identifying large mushroom please Hello, I was wondering through the fields this morning and found this beauty growing on the footpath, was hoping someone could help identify it!
It is about 15cm across and 5-6cm tall, the gills are a a pinkish grey and was protected by a veil
growing in a field on soil, grass, no trees in the vicinity, and had a downward facing ring on the stipe
If anyone wants more information I willtry and answer all questions, thanks for reading! |

This is most likely to be Agaricus urinascens, lacking the pronounced cogwheel patterned ring of Agaricus arvensis ( Horse Mushroom) and probably too big for A. campestris.

| | | Re: Help identifying large mushroom please Yes, it's obviously not a bitorquis now I look at it.
But why choose urinascens over arvensis? I cannot see any wooly scales on the stem or the cap which would point to urinascens. Also it's also not clear how pronounced the cogwheel is on these pictures.

| | | Re: Help identifying large mushroom please From these pictures it doesn't seem to have a distinctive cogwheel on the annulus which had me thinking A. urinascens, it may still well be A. arvensis even A. osecanus. It's pure guess work unless gotten under the microscope I'm afraid. Not an easy genus at the best of times.
