Funghi growing in the sand
Some visitors found this funghi growing in the sand at Ardnave, Islay and we all though that was unusual. Any ideas what it is anyone? Thanks.

This is most likely to be Psathyrella ammophila or less likely P.dunensis - both saprotrophic, the former on roots of marram grass with a lot of the stem buried beneath the sand.

agreed, definitely ammophila for me . . . (oh and it's 'this fungus' Becky) . . . . 'slapped legs' as they say in this part of West Yorkshire
