Despite continued dry weather and the nearly complete absence of other large fungi, the a. muscaria have continued pushing up in far greater number than I have ever seen. Here are shots of the current states of 2 patches that have been in continuous production over the last month.
I'm still wondering if people are seeing muscaria in these numbers elsewhere.

As for Nick Cantle and his 'batch' of A.strobiliformis - he keeps them in dry ice and brings them out every year just to wind me up.

| | | Re: First Find of the Summer Six weeks now, and the muscaria are still popping up in large numbers and in more places than I have seen before. Other amanitas and boletes have make only rare and transient appearances, except for one patch of very large slippery jacks.
This A. muscaria photographed yesterday was about 12" across!
